My lost necklace lingered in the thinness of the air. "Susie! Give that back!" I screamed desperately. I had lost my ruby necklace after it had broke off from the grasp of the ferris wheel. It had near choked me, and I had then had to confront the bully of the school, who had always seemed to pick on only me. It was only natural that one of my most prized posession would fall into her hands. She'd been on my tail since third grade, when I'd tripped over her new tiny diamond bracelet from her grandma accidentally. I'd apologized gracefully, and tried to halt her loud sobs, which seemed to venture all the way to the shoe store next to our school. From then on, she'd hated me. That is, until what had been done had been undone, and I could not replace it because I did not have the money. But I, Mirila Norce, would have to face one of the most desperate moments of my life as the flashback of her bracelet morphed itself into a broken, 75 year old necklace. " I was hoping for a more conveniant payment from you, but I suppose this will have to do, considering it's yours, it's old, and unique." Susie sneered. "No! Please, I'll do whatever you want!" I cried. "Too late." Said Susie as she crushed and broke the necklace's chain to pieces with her foot, and speedily grabbed the precious gem attached to it. "If you at least want this back, then do what I say! Now wipe off the ground in front of my feet so I could walk in pride.... and use your hands!!!" I got on the ground and wiped it off as if my life depended on it, which it did. That necklace was to become a family tradition, for my mom had recieved it from her mother, and I recieved it from mine. My brown, shoulder length hair was blowing, showing off my very tiny aquamarine earrings. I wasn't that wealthy, but I could afford some things. For the next two days, I did everything for Susie, even fed her. But the last day, I had to meet her at the beach, (We lived in Malibu), to finally get back my necklace. I was unbelievably grateful, but shocked she gave it back so quickly. I had no resentment toward her anymore, nor jealous anymore of her beauty or riches. I just was happy to have my necklace back. "Hello, Mirila. Do you want this back" She asked. I nodded, but worried, because my instinct told me she was about to do something bad. "Well, then, I had to get mine bak to a bracelet again, so you must pay one as well. A big one for all the time I had to wait for payback! She said, and threw it with force into the ocean, " Huh-huh-how could you!? I screamed. "I'd start going in after it if I were you. She warned. I jumped in, silk shirt and all. The carved, framed ruby drifted further and further away. I tried to swim faster. It was almost mine, even though I was freezing to the point of sickness when I sighted a huge wave coming towards me. "No. NO!!" I thought. I was forced away and seperated from our family antique. I swam back to surface as a gloomy failure, knowing death awaited me if I swam in after the necklace. The sand felt good and warm on my feet, like a friend, and the sun was already beginning to warm me, but my heart felt to cold to melt at the time without the flames of revenge to warm it.
