bday gift ideas for soon to be 18 year old girlfriend?

my girlfriends birthday is in august, i wanted to buy her a set of earring with her birthstone but she said she REALLY doesnt want me to spend money on her

is there anything i can give her or make for her? im a musician and i can make a song but i really cant sing that well

she likes the fact i play guitar and im wondering if she would think of guitar strings from my favorite guitar would make her happy or if she would think its cheap and dumb

i thought of making a guitar pick necklace with the lil picture thing inside would she like that?

i have considered roses but it sounds so cliche

i can cook a lil bit so maybe a candle lit dinner?

please everyone out of those which would be the best?
or a combination of all?
please help me!

A very nice gift for a 10 yr old girl?

My stepdaughter is turning 10 this month and this is a HUGE deal for her! She's officially a pre-teen and out of the single digit ages!! Rather than doing the usual birthday thing we do for the kids which is a home party of cake, ice cream, gifts, pizza, etc. I told my hubby this bday should be really special for her. I need gift ideas!! Since her birthstone is diamond would diamond stud princess cut earrings be a gawdy gift? She loves jewelry I know that!! I received diamond studs on my 12th bday and still cherish them today! Maybe some other type of nice jewelry? No toys....please!! We have 5 toy boxes stuffed with crap no one ever wants to clean up! I also thought it would be special to take only her out to her favorite restaurant rather than the party thing which I'm sure she'll have with her mother, so hubby agreed and that's what we're doing. She's very girly btw and loves all things girly =) Any ideas?
