Christmas Gift for Girlfriend?

So we are 16, and this is our first Christmas together. I'm a terrible shopper, but I've been browsing the internet trying to find something. Naturally I eventually thought of jewelry. We were both born in July, so I was thinking like a ruby pendant might be nice. It seems to me that a birthstone would be more of a birthday gift, but then I figured I could get her earrings to match on her birthday. So, a few questions:

1. Would a birthstone pendant be a good idea from a Christmas gift (coupled with a few other smaller things)?
2. We've only been going out for almost two months and we're only 16. Would her parents freak out if they saw me getting her a medium quality ruby pendant?

Any help is, as always, appreciated. Merry Christmas! :)

Who wants to try and solve some ancient India algebra problems?

Out of a swarm of bees 1/5 settled in a field, 1/3 settled on a stone. 3 times the difference of those numbers flew to the bloom of a Kataja flower. one bee which remained hovered in the air, tell me the number of bees.

8 rubies, 10 emeralds and 100 pearls are in a set of earrings. The sum of the prices of the 3 sorts of gems were 3 less then half a hundred. Tell me the price of each gem.

Good Luck! First person to write out the equations and get both questions right get best answer!

Survey-What kind of jewelry will you be buying this holiday season?

The holiday's are just around the corner and I need some ideas on what to order in for our jewelry store for the holiday's. We usually order in diamond and gemstone jewelry, but considering the recession, we would like some suggestions from the public on what you will be buying this year so we can order accordingly :-) Thanks in advance!

1. What metals will you be buying? Gold (rose, white or yellow), silver, platinum, or alternative metals?

2. Is there any particular gems you will be looking for? Rubies, emerald, pearls, diamonds, lab grown gems or imiations (CZ's) ect...

3. What price point will you be looking at? Under $100, $200-$400, $500-$1000, $1000-$2000, $2000 and over

4. Will you be looking for a particular item? Bracelets, earrings, pendants, neclaces ect...

5. Are you looking for any particular style, such as key pendants, black and white diamond jewelry, charms or charm bracelets ect...

Any other suggestions are welcome as well. I really appriciate your time and will choose the answer with the best suggestions for 10pts.
