I bought about $500 dollars of rubies and sapphires about 5 years ago. It was from someone who imports and sells to the wholesale gem dealers. Anyway, I never used them and don't plan to.
I want to sell them to a gem dealer and was wondering if prices of these stones in general have gone up, down or stayed the same in the last 5 years. How much percent wise?

Prices in this field can go up and down like a roller coaster. As it stands, Rubies and Sapphires have gone up in recent years, but it depends on the size, grade and origin of the gemstones themselves. Burmese material is demanding a premium do to embargos, while Madagascar material is a bit down.
